'Working WITH distressed behaviour in the outdoors'

This online course is for anyone wanting to deepen their understanding of ‘distressed behaviour’ expressed by learners (of any age) and how working outdoors within a natural space can be a catalyst for change.

It is suitable for: Teachers, Teaching Assistants, Early Years Practitioners, Outdoor Educators and Forest and Nature School Practitioners, Home School Educators, Play Workers and those wanting to work in a therapeutic way with learners.

This course will unpick theory, look at real life case studies and include a number of interactive sessions, including chats round the virtual fire!

The course will include:

What do behaviours communicate and what behaviour challenges us as educators/facilitators?
How does the brain/body interact with the environment? Routes to the self regulation of the nervous system and how co-regulation can support pro-social and pro-ecological behaviours
A 'needs – based’ approach and what needs the outdoors satisfy
The 3 C’s – Models for working with behaviour
Why outdoors? – What needs does the natural world cater for and how does it help us self regulate? Up to date summary of research into the interactions between the human nervous system and the more than human world
Interventions & De-escalation – ways of co-regulating and working with behaviours
How to work with various ‘needs’ from neuro-typical through to various ‘attachment’ needs, including ASD, sensory attachments and more!
Self- care - Looking after ourselves

This course will be facilitated by Jon Cree and Libby Piper, & moderated by Caylin Gans
